Yay! Networking. Doesn’t everybody love networks? :D Today I will talk a little about computer networking, hopefully the people who read this can actually learn a thing or two and can finally ask the right question when they have problems. Call it a Network-for-dummies, but the standard of a dummy has been, well, dumbed down.

Little disclaimer: Today’s post is somewhat written out of frustration, so do forgive me if it sounds a little awkward every now and then. Also, I’m not the inventor of the Internet nor a guru of Networking, so my info may be screwed up abit, but hey, it’s better than nothing.

So let’s begin………

What is a network?

A network is just like what it says. A network. A bunch of stuff that works – or “communicate” – together and/or share stuff between them. Think of social network but replace all the emo kids with a computer device.

What is an example of a computer network?

Good question! A good example is commonly found in many regular north-american household; the “home network”. They are usually built so more than one computer can share an internet connection between them, and furthermore, share other things such as printers and stuff.
Other examples include a corporate network of 2 buildings on different physical location, yet the employee spout stuff like “hey, we’re on the same network” (without really knowing what it means) because the IT people says so and they are able to share printers and files without going to the Internet (at least that’s what they think…)
Note that bigger networks such as these are usually made from smaller networks; hence they’re actually network of networks. But don’t worry, I won’t go to such complicated discussions in this post.

Ever tired of your post-it notes all over the monitor? Ever wished that you have a software that can actually organize it for you inside your computer?

Look no further.

Zhorn software has created a beautiful, free, and simple program to do just that. Very very cool. Simple, works, and even have a few nifty little tricks up its sleeve.
