…one that can enslave us in the future.

Ok, maybe not. But it’s still an interesting idea. A new kind of search engine is being researched by one of best mathmetician of our time, Stephen Wolfram. It’s called the “Wolfram”… duh. :D

So what’s so special? You can read the whole article through the link below, but in an essence it is a smart search engine. One that understand everyday language (English only so far) and able to calculate a single precise answer. So instead of Google-ing “bahama vacation cruise package”, you can type “what’s the best deal for a bahama cruise?”, and instead of giving you thousands of possible results, it will calculate based on your history and/or location etc, and give you exactly what you asked – the best deal for a bahama cruise.

It’s like a search engine with an AI.

I think the best way to summarize this post is by quoting the article: “Let’s say you’re a defense-company marketing executive. And you want to make a splash at the Indian defense ministry’s annual air show. Do you: (a) buy expensive gifts for New Delhi’s generals; (b) treat the press to Kingfishers and samosas; (c) produce a Bollywood-esque video featuring bare-midriff girls, flower-draped missiles, and the catch phrase “dinga dinga dee?”".

Well, apparently somebody picked C.

Yes, that’s right. After January 15th, 2009, apparently TV Tokyo decided, hey, we’ll stream it online for free since you guys have been ripping it and subbing it externally and put them on YouTube anyway… So the quality is medium, but it’s better than YouTube, and they’re actually trying to catch up to their Japanese counterpart! And when they do catch up, paid subscriber will be able to pay a minimum fee and watch them 1-hr after their japanese release, and free viewers can watch them a week later.

I mean, I’ll take a week, sure. It’s free, it’s legal, and it’s subbed nicely only a week away from actual Japanese release!

Now if only they get those damn fillers done and away! :(

More info: official Naruto.com

They are streamed through Joost and so it’s streamed through your browser at slightly-better-than-YouTube quality (embedding available), or you can download the Joost program and enjoy it in higher quality!

I’m excited the most because it’s Naruto, not because it’s my favourite Anime (well, it’s close), but because it’s a LOT of people’ favourite anime… and it’s FREE! One might dare say, it’s a revolution :)

More enhanced AI in our computers, our home, our cars, and so on…. I, for one, will actually embrace our robot overlords with open arms…

AI in the gaming industry is one of the most basic form of AI found, but that’s not to say a basic form can’t have a (very) complex augmentation. It’s like saying a tweaked 4-cyl Honda can outrun a v8 Porsche. It’s possible and it’s wise not to underestimate it.

As mentioned in the beginning of the article, a true AI requires a remarkable number of CPU and some ridicolous amount of memory as it require to compute more than a decision-making-path-finding obstacles, it need to LEARN and improve it’s logic thinking. Basic AI in games are more “static”, as it doesn’t learn new ways. It may simulate learning, but it’s not true learning, as it’s only branching out to another set of path-tree instead of assimilating the current values as it learn. Again, it can still be complex by substituting the values from an action to a goal… but I’ll leave you with this article I found. It’s a great read if you’re into these stuff :)

Actually, although I’m very impressed with the technology and future possibilities for blind people everywhere (the one disability I personally fear the most), I had to chuckle at one of the comment at Gizmodo site. But first, here’s the full article link:

And here’s the comment I’m talking about…
